The House at Midnight by Lucie Whitehouse - A spooky, romantic novel

Lucie Whitehouse is a British author, who lives in London. She has read classics at Oxford University.

The House at Midnight is the first novel written by Lucie Whitehouse. The plot is primarily about the relationships between tight-knit group of university friends -- Joanna (the narrator), Lucas, Danny, Michael, Martha, Rachel, and Greg. Lucas inherits Stoneborough Manor -- the mysterious old house, after the suicide of his art-dealer uncle. Soon, Lucas invites his friends (including Joanna) to Stoneborough Manor, where he decides to propose Joanna.

When Lucas proposes his love to Joanna, she showed some positive signs for his love, as she has the same feel over Lucas. Soon, Joanna finds herself in a romantic relationship with Lucas and he decides to move in with his parasitic friend Danny. In the meanwhile, Rachel, who has a job in fashion, has turned up with a hunky new boyfriend -- Greg. On one night, things get trickier when Joanna sees Rachel and Greg, lying in a compromising position on the floor and pleasuring each other.

When Joanna spends her time with Lucas in Stoneborough Manor, she discovers that the house is having a strange effect on Lucas. She also doubts that Lucas becomes haunted by the death of his uncle and got pre-occupied by cine films of his uncle's friends at Stoneborough thirty years earlier. Moreover, Joanna feels that the mocking eyes of the frescoed immortals are following her every move and suspects that the house is haunted by bad spirits or ghosts. Can Joanna save Lucas from this spooky house?
