Jeffrey Archer was born in 1940 and he is an English author, playwright and an actor. Being a former Member of Parliament and Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party, Archer lives in London.
“Paths of Glory” is a history-based novel written by Archer, which exposes the story of a real-life mountaineer, George Mallory. The author has attempted to fictionalize the life story of Mallory and his dream of being the first man to climb to the top of Mt. Everest. Unfortunately, Mallory's body was found on Mt. Everest in 1999, and it is considered that he may have been the first man to reach the highest point.

The story describes Mallory’s thirty-two year period covering from his childhood days to his third attempt to climb Mt. Everest in 1924, at age thirty-seven. From the young age, Mallory showed a lot of interests in mountain climbing, but failed in his first two attempts due to many reasons. This aim in climbing mountains was pulling away lots of his quality time and money, which was disliked by his wife.
After the two failed attempts, he decides to make a last attempt in climbing up the Mt. Everest, stating that he will place his wife’s photo on the top and return back home, and promise to make no more attempts after this. But on the way to the mountains, he was found dead and his wife’s photo was missing from his wallet. Was he killed during his mission in climbing Mt. Everest? Or did he die due to worst weather conditions?
