The Two Pearls of Wisdom by Alison Goodman - Brings out the ancient lores of Chinese Astrology

Alison Goodman is an Australian author, who is well-known for her award-winning science fiction novel, “Singing the Dogstar Blues”. She has given lecture in creative writing programs at several Victorian universities. She is good at writing fictional stories.

The Two Pearls of Wisdom”, written by Alison Goodman is a 2008 Aurealis Award-winning Novel under the Best Fantasy category, which is based on the ancient lores of Feng Shui and Chinese astrology. The story is all about Eon, who is been trained to become a Dragoneye -- one of the most powerful people in the whole of the empire who can able to control wind and water to protect the land. But there is a dark secret that hides behind his past. Eon is actually Eona, a young woman living a dangerous pretence that, if discovered, will mean certain death.


When Eona was young, he was found by a power-hungry master of the Dragon Magic, who was in a search for the new Dragoneye. Since females are not allowed in practicing arts, Eona undergoes years of study to mask or pretend as a boy. So Eona becomes Eon, and a dangerous risk is put into play. Soon, Eon's ultimate display of skill at the Dragoneye ceremony draws attention of the Emperor himself and summoned to the wealthy court, which places him in the centre of a power struggle between the Emperor and his High Lord brother.

Subjected to the treacherous court politics, Eon tries to escape form the responsibilities given to him, since he gets deviated from his mission in capturing the imperial throne. Soon Eona must learn to believe her powers and find the strength to face a spiteful enemy who would take away her magic and her life.
